Dear colleagues, dear friends, dear members of the Wissenschaftsforum Geriatrie e.V.,

it seems incredible but two presidential years are already over and I’d like to share with all of you my gratitude towards those who rendered possible the growth and lively activity portfolio of the association.

First of all, I’d like to thank the past management boards of the Forum for the groundbreaking work performed for the successful establishment of the association under the patronage of the Robert-Bosch Foundation for Geriatrics. I’d like to thank the members of the management board during my presidentship, Professor Hans-Jürgen Heppner – President of the German Geriatrics Society -, PD Dr. Albert Lukas, Dr. Adrian Rosada and Dr. Manfred Gogol, for the excellent collaboration and inspiring meetings. Thanks to the German Geriatrics Society and in particular to its past and current Presidents Professors Jürgen Bauer and Hans-Jürgen Heppner for having strongly supported the work of the Forum, especially the organisation of symposia during the annual conferences and the initiative to implement the participation of young researchers in Geriatrics to the annual meeting of the Wissenschaftsforum Geriatrie e.V. in Berlin as well as to the annual meetings of the German and of the European Geriatrics Societies.

On behalf of the management board and of the members of the Forum I wish to express my profound gratitude to the speakers, mentors and young investigators in Gerontology and Geriatrics who incredibly enriched the annual symposia with knowledge, experience, and well-designed scientific ideas. It has been a very fruitful experience, to see how many researchers in Geriatrics successfully pursue the common aim of translating ageing science into medical practice and viceversa. In particular, we thank Professor Cornel Sieber (Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen – Nürnberg) and Professor Andreas Kruse (Universität Heidelberg) for having made the 2019 edition of the Wissenschaftsforum Geriatrie meeting in Berlin a unique experience of knowledge, thinking, and scientific attitude.

Finally, I’d like to thank the growing number of members and colleagues interested in the Forum’s activities. Without your feedback and support the statutory and intellectual goals of the Forum would have not been approached and achieved. Now my best wishes for a healthy and successful 2019 go to all of you and, to the new elected management board, congratulations and all my support for the next important endeavors. Ad maiora!
